So the COOP advert says '100% of our FRESH meat UK sourced'. So nothing about where the meat is farmed – only via a UK farm.
And only fresh meat, so Pork Pies can be from any meat. So the advert says 'Pork pies UK meat', but the rest of the advert does not. Who does the DNA analysis of the meat? The COOP, or does the customer have to go in with a DNA analysis kit.
Luckily the food standard people can analysis the DNA – which is how we learned about horse meat.
The COOP advert leaves the way clear for horse or condemned meat to be used in processed food. Tighten up on what you actually say!
