Since photosynthesis evolved in the Cretaceous, global CO2 has been limited by photosynthesis on the land AND seas. That limit today is 2 parts per million.
Even with no life on land, sea photosynthesis would take in CO2, and produce plant and bacteria biomass. Deep water bacteria use fluid turbulence in place of UV light.
So if you burn the Fossil Fuels, you do NOT increase CO2 levels in the air – such an idea is stupid. You increase active life on Earth.
In 2000 I was doing PhD work at Sheffield University – who have a global reputation for gas analysis. If you take amber, the gas pockets preserve the air composition of prehistroy.
In the Jurassic CO2 was at 4ppm. Sea levels were 60 meters LOWER. There was 65% more, though less evolved life on Earth. Most of the Fossil Fuels formed at the mass extinctions of prehistroy. At the start of the Cretaceous, there was 10ppm CO2 in the air.
But the Jurassic has natural ice-ages. And gas analysis shows CO2 levels double. We are talknig about 20ppm CO2 in the air – 10 times present levels.
The Jurassic had 3 natural ice ages, with CO2 at 8ppm. 1 ice-age lasted 650 million years. Human cities have been on Earth for 5,300 years only.
Above the Arctic in the winter, CO2 reaches 4ppm. And air temperatures get down to -50oC. So CO2 levels are limited by life on the land and seas: totally outside man's control.
Nature control 99.8% of the surface of the Earth. Man's CO2 emissions add 0.00004% life to the biology of the Earth. Remember the Jurassic had 655 more life than is on Earth today. With sea levels 60 meters lower.
And it had those 3 natural ice-ages. All before man. AS we burn the Fossil Fuels, we very, very gradually get that life back.
But there is an easier way to get at heat! Fire up a steam plasma – the power of the lightening strike.
So we get 5 tonnes of Helium gas – an energy release of 2.5x1030W, from a 1.5km steam plasma – heat with no CO2.
So a 50x1cm steam plasma gives us 2.4MW, as it does plasma burn – twice as energetic as Molecular Nuclear Fusion.
2x10-17cc of regular water produces a constant 2.4MW, from a 50x1cm steam plasma in a glass tube at 4 atmospheres. A thermoelectric generator will turn into144kW of carbon 0, free electricity.
Have the plant in an outhouse or garage, and the power company will send you a cheque for 455,760 UK pounds every year. Each home user can produce massive excess power. All carbon 0, from a miniscule amount of regular water – over a life time. So no life enhancing CO2 – but free power.
From a plant costing 1,200 UK pounds: a payback time of 3 seconds. No wonder oil has crashed so much – they have stopped doing graphs.
I told Sheffield University about Molecular Nuclear Fusion 2001, and I overheard the visitor from nuclear power, saying my PhD MUST be ended. It was.
Static CO2 – no man-made Climate Change.
